If the rest of 2011 is anything like the first week, I won’t make it through July. And I’m only talking about local news.

A recap, in very rough order of significance according to me:

• Gov. Deval Patrick began his second term.
• Former state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in federal prison.
• Beth Israel CEO Paul Levy said he will resign.
• Former Gov. Paul Cellucci said he has Lou Gehrig’s disease.
• The Supreme Judicial Court upheld a ruling that would invalidate hundreds of foreclosures.
• A new legislative session began — Mass. Dems reign on Beacon Hill but  no longer on Capitol Hill.
• A former Iranian prince committed suicide in Boston.
• Probation Department chief John O’Brien resigned (last week, actually, but we were all at New Year’s parties).
• Boston Police reported the first homicide of 2011.
• Lawmakers cried for reform of the state’s parole system in the wake of a Woburn cop’s murder.
• The candidates for Boston’s seventh City Council district started lining up. (Chuck Turner is not one of them.)
• A gigonzo Mega Millions jackpot was claimed, but not by anyone in Mass.
• A snake got loose on a train.
